Specific program options are:

Health:

Programs included in this effort are:

  • Mission:  Honduras.  Medical mission trip to Honduras.  Goes the third Thursday of July and stays a week.  Medical professionals and non-medical support personnel welcome, including translators.
  • Vitamin and anti-parasite medication program for school-age children.  Through a grant, this program covers 1000 primary school children in our rural villages in El Paraiso.
  • Guardianas de la Salud program, training local lay healthcare workers to provide first aid treatment and to monitor chronically ill patients

Education:

Education Program.  This program begun in 2003 provides opportunities for Honduran boys and girls to continue their education beyond the sixth grade when government-funded public school ends.  We provide scholarship support to children from our rural villages to go on to the seventh grade through the Honduran equivalent of high school graduation.

School supplies, uniforms, books.  We take donated school supplies to provide both elementary and secondary school students.  We also provide financial support to cover costs of uniforms (required in Honduras) and books.

Tuition support for higher education.  We now have graduates of our scholarship program who want to continue their studies to a technical or trade school, or to university.  Beginning in 2012, 10% of donations to the Education Program will be set aside to provide tuition support for a limited number of students who qualify for this scholarship support.

Spirit:

Programs to assist villages in developing their own churches and supporting their own clergy; and economic development.

Church Development:  This program raises funds to help villages to develop and build their own churches on their own land and constructed by the villagers themselves.  The first church was finished in the tiny village of Aqua Viva, and in July, 2011 the Bishop of Honduras consecrated the church.  This program also assists in providing a stipend for lay pastors to provide clerical services for multiple villages.

Community Development:  Honduras Good Works is developing a microfinance program for the purpose of job creation and income-generating opportunities in the rural villages of El Paraiso.  A water ministry is a new program of Honduras Good Works.  Headed by Dr. Louis Manz, a Board Member and specialist in water solutions in Honduras, will partner with other organizations to deliver water solutions for communities we serve.  We also seek donations to provide homes with eco-stoves, an improvement over the traditional Honduran stoves.  Eco-stoves adequately ventilate smoke from the homes, an important improvement to address rampant asthma and bronchitis conditions due to smoke inhalatin.  These stoves are also fuel efficient, requiring one-fifth the amount of firewood that traditional stoves consume.

Funds benefiting our church and community development program
